In a recent statement, Donald Trump warned Russia that he might introduce a “new step of aggression” by sending advanced American missiles to Ukraine if the war does not end soon. Speaking from Air Force One on October 12, Trump revealed his plan to possibly send Tomahawk missiles to strengthen Ukraine’s military capability and pressure Vladimir Putin to halt hostilities.

Trump had hoped to win the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his record of ending several global conflicts, but his failure to receive it hasn’t slowed his efforts toward peace in Ukraine. The Tomahawk missile is known for its precision and range, able to strike from more than 1,000 miles away, which makes it a potent weapon in Ukraine’s fight against Russia.

The former president said he could issue a clear message to Russia that if the conflict isn’t resolved, the United States may supply these powerful weapons. He described Tomahawks as “incredible” and “very offensive,” implying that Russia should be cautious about continuing aggression. Trump also mentioned ongoing talks with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding this potential arms delivery.
Trump believes the threat of these missiles could deter further Russian attacks, noting it is unlikely that Russia would welcome such advanced weapons pointed towards its territory. He also commented that Putin might improve his international standing by ending the war, but failure to do so would harm Russia.
Following this announcement, Kremlin officials expressed their concern. Dmitry Peskov said the idea of Tomahawks being sent to Ukraine raises “extreme concern,” underscoring Moscow’s objections to further military aid for Ukraine and the escalating tensions this proposal might cause.
