Desiree Andrews, a cheerleader with Down syndrome, was facing bullying from others during a basketball game at Lincoln Middle School. Seeing this, her friends and basketball teammates — Scooter Terrien, Chase Vasquez, and Miles Rodriguez — decided to intervene.

They stopped what they were doing, left the bench, and confronted the bullies in front of the whole school. Their simple but effective act of solidarity was crucial in defending Desiree and making her feel supported.

The community praised the boys’ actions, and Desiree’s father expressed deep appreciation, highlighting how important it is for young people to stand up for their peers.
