Ana Obregón’s life changed forever in 2022 when her son Aless Lequio died at 27 after battling cancer. Aless had dreamed of becoming a father, and in a heartfelt tribute, Ana fulfilled that wish by having a child through surrogacy using his preserved sperm.
In 2023, Ana became a grandmother to a baby girl named Anita. She clarified publicly that Anita is her granddaughter, conceived with Aless’s sperm, and that one day she plans to tell her granddaughter about her father’s courage and life.
Though Ana is now 70, she embraces the joy and pain of raising Anita, surrounded by a home filled with toys and play. She admits caring for a growing child brings its own challenges.
Recounting the shock of Aless’s diagnosis, Ana shared how sudden and hard it was to face his illness so young. The loss has shaped her fears as a grandmother raising the child he never met.

Since surrogacy is illegal in Spain, the baby was born in the United States, and Ana adopted her to become legal guardian. Ana has spoken openly about the deep grieving process she underwent, saying she was “dead for three years” until Anita’s birth.
On the child’s second birthday, Ana reflected, “There will always be pain from losing Aless, but Anita brings light and hope to my life.” Her story shines as a testament to love, resilience, and honoring family dreams beyond loss.
