Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, known globally for her climate advocacy, was detained by Israeli forces after joining an aid flotilla to Gaza. New details reveal the harsh treatment she and other activists reportedly faced while in custody.

Thunberg communicated to Swedish diplomats that she suffered dehydration and developed rashes, suspecting bedbugs as the cause. Lawyers for the flotilla participants reported that detainees had limited access to food, water, and medicine. Fellow flotilla member Windfield Beaver described Thunberg’s treatment as humiliating and degrading.
Witnesses described her being paraded wrapped in an Israeli flag and coerced into kneeling on concrete surfaces. Israeli officials have denied these allegations, asserting all detainees were treated humanely and had access to legal rights.
After weeks of detention, Thunberg was sent to Greece with over 160 other activists in early October.
