Bryce Brooks, a teenager from Atlanta, lost his life in 2023 while saving four young children from drowning in Florida’s dangerous rip currents. While vacationing with family, he and friends saw the kids in distress and bravely jumped into the water to help.
Bryce remained calm and focused, calling for help not for himself but for the children. But the powerful waters swept him away, causing his tragic death. Charles Johnson II, a close family friend, also died trying to rescue Bryce.
Bryce’s family remembers him as a caring and talented boy who recently made honor roll and enjoyed music and fashion. His parents described him as a hero who showed great maturity and selflessness. The Bryce Brooks Foundation now works to keep his legacy alive through swim lessons and lifeguard scholarships.
