In a lawsuit filed in Alameda County Superior Court, the parents of Krysta Tsukahara have accused Tesla of selling a vehicle with a dangerous door design that trapped their daughter during a fiery Cybertruck crash last November.

Though Krysta and other passengers suffered only minor injuries in the collision, Tesla’s powered doors lost functionality during the crash, leaving them unable to exit quickly. The only escape was through a concealed manual lever that was too difficult to locate in the chaotic post-crash environment.

Krysta’s death by smoke inhalation has sparked public outrage and regulatory investigations, as more Tesla drivers report door malfunctions. The family and their attorney call Tesla’s design a “deathtrap” and demand justice.
