As weight loss injections like GLP-1 agonists become widely used, a new study highlights that emotional eaters may see lower fat loss benefits. Japanese researchers followed 92 adults on GLP-1 treatment, analyzing how eating habits affected outcomes.

While external eaters who respond to food cues showed better fat loss, emotional eaters driven by negative feelings lost less weight.

This indicates that GLP-1 drugs, which suppress appetite through biological mechanisms, may be less capable of overcoming psychological reasons behind emotional eating.
The authors recommend that behavioral assessments be incorporated into treatment plans to optimize results.
