The Sun Is ‘Waking Up’: NASA Scientists Reveal Unexpected Rise in Solar Activity

After decades of slow decline, NASA has revealed that solar activity is increasing more rapidly than many scientists predicted. Solar wind velocity, density, and temperature have all markedly risen since the solar minimum around 2008.

Jamie Jasinski, lead author of the study published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, highlighted the surprise felt within the scientific community. “The sun is slowly waking up,” she said, contradicting long-held assumptions of an extended quiet period.

This resurgence coincides with observed increases in solar flares and coronal mass ejections capable of disrupting satellites and power grids, raising concerns about technology dependence on space weather.

Simultaneously, these solar particles create magnificent auroral displays visible near the poles, providing a mixed blessing for observers on Earth.

Despite extensive monitoring, the underlying causes of these multi-decade solar cycles remain a mystery, underscoring the need for continued research in heliophysics.
