Following a highly publicized trial revealing the horrific torture and murder of Sara Sharif, 10, her father Ufran Sharif was subjected to a violent attack by fellow prisoners at HMP Belmarsh. The assault involved using a jagged tuna can lid as a weapon.
Sharif had confessed to the murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum 40-year term. Authorities confirmed he was badly cut but survived and received hospital care.
The attack was reportedly planned and rooted in prisoners’ disdain for those who harm children. Guards have increased protection due to the high profile of the case.
