Rick Davies, Supertramp’s Iconic Voice, Passes Away

Rick Davies, the co-founder and lead singer of British band Supertramp, died at age 81 after a decade-long battle with blood cancer. His passing on September 5, 2025, marks the end of a remarkable life dedicated to music. Born in England in 1944, Davies and friend Roger Hodgson started Supertramp in 1969, blending progressive rock and pop into hits that remain beloved today.

The band’s 1979 album Breakfast in America achieved worldwide success, earning Grammy nominations and creating tracks such as “The Logical Song” and “Goodbye Stranger,” songs to which Davies’s piano and voice were central. Davies’s voice was known for its deep, soulful tone, contrasting uniquely with Hodgson’s.

Despite health setbacks ending his touring days, Davies retained his passion for music, performing locally and leaving an enduring artistic legacy. Fans and the music world remember him as the soulful heartbeat of Supertramp’s sound.
