Pentagon Confirms Iranian Missile Hit on Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base

In a recent development, the Pentagon acknowledged that an Iranian ballistic missile struck the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar during a June 23 attack. This strike came as retaliation for US military actions targeting Iranian nuclear facilities.

Satellite imagery shows that a $15 million geodesic dome, which protects vital communications equipment, was destroyed. The dome was intact just hours before the missile strike but was missing in photos taken shortly afterward. Some adjacent structures also suffered minor damage.

Despite the impact, the Pentagon stated that the damage was minimal and the base continues to function fully. The attack was largely thwarted by coordinated US and Qatari air defenses, which intercepted most of the missiles fired.

Iran’s missile attack followed US strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites and was part of the broader conflict involving Israel and Iran. While Iran claimed the strike disrupted US military communications, US officials emphasized the base’s operational status and the effectiveness of missile defenses.
