Nine Million People Brace for Devastating Nor’easter on East Coast

The US East Coast is bracing for a severe Nor’easter storm, leading to a state of emergency declaration covering nine million residents. Known for strong northeast winds, Nor’easters can bring hurricane-force winds, snow, rain, and devastating floods to the coastal regions, particularly during the fall and winter months.

This storm is projected to grow stronger as it travels north, with sustained winds near the coast of 40-60 mph and dangerous gusts that could hit 80 mph. New Jersey’s entire population is on alert as officials urge caution, with Acting Governor Tahesha Way advising residents to keep updated with forecasts and avoid travel unless it’s absolutely necessary.

The National Weather Service highlighted the threat of significant flooding due to a mix of wind, heavy surf, and astronomical tides along Delaware, southern New Jersey, and Virginia’s Tidewater areas. Residents along these coasts must follow emergency guidance closely.

The storm will peak Monday before easing off Tuesday as it moves out to sea. Its impacts will be felt widely, spanning from North Carolina to New York City, affecting major hubs including Boston and Philadelphia. Travel and power disruptions are expected to increase as the storm hits.
