My Ex’s Fiancée’s Demand for My Twin Taught Me to Protect My Babies

When my ex, Paul, ended our short relationship over pastries, saying he wanted to reconnect with his old love, Sarah, I let him go gracefully. Weeks later, I found out I was pregnant with twins. Paul was ecstatic, vowing to give them everything. Sarah, who couldn’t conceive, offered to “support” our co-parenting. I welcomed it, hoping for teamwork. But Sarah’s support became overbearing. She and Paul came to my home, where she demanded a home birth, formula feeding, and that the twins call her “Mama” while I’d be “Mommy.” Paul, eating my craving cupcakes, didn’t object.

Her audacity floored me. Feeling cornered, I showed them the door. Sarah’s texts poured in—diet tips, baby names, nursery plans, and gripes about her job. I stopped responding. She set up a genetics appointment without me, trying to control it. At my 20-week scan, Paul asked if Sarah could come instead. I snapped, “This isn’t a shared craft.” After their engagement, Sarah posted online, claiming my twins, and held a baby shower without me. At 24 weeks, Sarah and her mom, Linda, showed up, demanding one twin. “It’s fair,” Sarah said. I quipped she could carry my future bunny, then warned of a restraining order.

I texted Paul, threatening sole custody if Sarah returned. A lawyer suggested moving states, so I relocated quietly, finding calm. But Sarah found my toddler daycare job, trashing my car and windows, screaming I stole her future. Police arrested her for damage and child endangerment. I got restraining orders against her and Paul, then moved cross-country with my mom. Their attempts to contact me ended with new charges. Now, in my peaceful apartment, baking cookies and feeling my twins’ kicks, I’m ready to parent with love. They’ll have my last name, and I’ve learned to shield them fiercely from Sarah’s control, building a safe haven for us.
