Elizaveta Gushchina’s thrilling birthday bungee jump turned into a nightmare when she fell to her death while taking a selfie. The 45-year-old completed the jump from a 290-foot tower near St. Petersburg, Russia, but then climbed back without safety ropes to capture the moment with her son. She slipped and fell from the rain-slicked platform.
Her son Nikita, aged 23, witnessed the accident that has left their sports team and local community in mourning. Authorities have started looking into whether the bungee facility followed safety requirements.
