A large-scale 2024 study measured ejaculation latency times and found that men’s typical duration in bed declines somewhat with age—from approximately 16 minutes in their 20s to about 8 minutes beyond 65 years old.

The study also notes the percentage of men reaching orgasm exceeds women’s rates. Sexual health nurse Sarah Mulindwa points out that factors such as stress, recovery time, and health contribute to these numbers.
Experts emphasize there is no “correct” time for sex to last and that couples should prioritize mutual enjoyment and communication rather than duration metrics. The study encourages a healthy, individualized approach toward sexual well-being.
