A Mother’s Admission: Brigitte Bardot and Her Son Nicolas’s Estrangement

Brigitte Bardot, once one of France’s most iconic screen legends, never felt the bond of motherhood she expected. She blamed this on her son Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, whom she called “the source” of her lack of maternal instinct.

Bardot recounted her difficult pregnancy and early rejection of motherhood, describing the birth as “a tumor” and a “nightmare.” She placed custody of Nicolas with his father after their divorce, keeping her distance.

The tensions led to limited contact over decades and public fights over privacy. Still, in recent years, they have reconciled somewhat, with Bardot visiting Nicolas and embracing his family.
