Finley Downer, 8, was attacked by three nurse sharks in the Bahamas during a family trip. The sharks were drawn in after tourists threw food into the water near Compass Cay, where Finley was swimming.
He suffered major injuries to both legs and was treated immediately by a nurse who was part of the tourist group. Finley’s father arranged a private flight to get him to a hospital for necessary surgery.
The Downers, from England, expressed gratitude for the support while urging caution about such activities. Michael Downer said the tour seemed safe, but accidents can happen, and he hopes their story helps others stay careful.
Finley promised never to swim in dangerous shark areas again.
