Pilot Avoids Collision with Military Plane Near Minot Airport

On July 18, a Delta Connection flight coming into Minot faced a close call with a military jet. Air traffic control guided the commercial plane to turn, but the pilot spotted a B-52 bomber headed their way. Instead of continuing, the pilot acted fast and performed a go-around, making sure to avoid a collision.

Passengers on board described the plane tilting sideways, an unsettling sight during what should have been a calm landing. The pilot apologized for the sharp move and explained that it was a tense moment but necessary for everyone’s safety.

Minot’s airport does not use radar for civilian flights and relies on visual monitoring. Military radar nearby was not able to alert the tower in time, prompting questions about communication between military and airport authorities. The incident ended safely, thanks to the pilot’s sharp instincts and quick reaction.
