Study Finds Avoiding Masturbation May Cause Stress and Low Mood

A new study reveals that not masturbating can leave people feeling stressed and depressed. Although often a taboo subject, masturbation has been shown to offer several health benefits.

Previous research suggests that regular ejaculation may reduce prostate cancer risk, with one study indicating that 21 orgasms per month can lower the chance by 20 percent.

In this recent survey, 1,000 women took part in a three-week experiment using the Magic Wand Rechargeable vibrator. They spent one week abstaining from masturbation, one week using the vibrator daily, and one week following their normal sexual routine.

The study found that avoiding masturbation for a week negatively affected participants’ mood, body image, confidence, and social relationships.

One woman shared that using the vibrator helped her relieve stress and reconnect with herself. Another participant noticed a sharp decline in her emotional health during the abstinence week compared to the vibrator week, with increased depression symptoms.

Researcher Candice Nicole Hargons noted that orgasms can help people stay connected to their bodies and find happiness, especially during stressful times.

Masturbation also promotes better sleep. German health insurer Barmer Krankenkasse recommends masturbation as a natural way to fall asleep. Sex therapist Judith Golden explained that masturbation lowers blood pressure and releases feel-good hormones, making it a helpful sleep aid for many.
