Families Confirm Names of Children Lost in Texas Summer Camp Floods

Following the deadly flash floods at Camp Mystic in Texas, families have come forward to confirm the names of children who died. The floods, which have swept through the state since July 4, have claimed 82 lives, with the number expected to rise.

Camp Mystic, a Christian girls’ camp established in 1926, was severely affected. Governor Greg Abbott reported that approximately 750 girls were present when the floods hit.

Among the confirmed victims are Renee Smajstrla, Sarah Marsh, Janie Hunt, and the pair of close friends Eloise Peck and Lila Bonner. Renee’s family thanked those who helped in the search, while Sarah’s grandmother shared heartfelt words about her memory. Eloise and Lila’s families requested privacy, and Janie’s mother expressed their sorrow, noting that other family members at the camp are safe.

Authorities continue their search for missing campers, and the community remains united in grief and hope.
