Lioness Attacks Woman at Australian Zoo, Resulting in Arm Amputation

At Darling Downs Zoo in Queensland, a woman suffered a horrifying attack by a lioness on July 5, leading to the loss of her arm. The victim, closely connected to the zoo’s owners, was visiting the carnivore section when the sudden attack occurred.

The zoo stated that the woman was a frequent visitor, well aware of safety measures, and had spent years watching the keepers. Despite this, the lioness grabbed her arm, causing severe injuries.

The animal did not leave its enclosure, and no other people were endangered. The woman was flown to a hospital in Brisbane, where she was stabilized and underwent surgery. Unfortunately, the injuries were so severe that her arm had to be amputated.

Investigations by police and workplace safety authorities are ongoing. The zoo reassured the public that the lioness was healthy and will not be put down. They also thanked emergency services and supporters and confirmed the zoo’s reopening plans.
