The family of Emily Willis, a former adult film star, is moving forward with a lawsuit against Summit Malibu rehab center after she was left with severe disabilities. Emily, 26, was admitted for ketamine addiction treatment but suffered cardiac arrest due to alleged neglect by the facility’s staff.
Her mother, Yesenia Lara Cooper, claims that Emily showed clear signs of distress before the incident but was not properly cared for, resulting in brain damage and locked-in syndrome. The lawsuit accuses the rehab center of abuse, negligence, and fraudulent practices.
After a judge requested more detailed allegations to support the claim of dependency and custodial care, the family revised their complaint. The next court hearing is set for September 23, 2025, in Santa Monica.
Emily’s supporters have contributed nearly $117,000 through a GoFundMe campaign to help with her medical expenses as the case unfolds.
