Kamala Harris on Trump’s Private Promise to Ease Up on Criticism

Kamala Harris’s memoir 107 Days provides an inside look at her presidential campaign, including unexpected private interactions with Donald Trump. After an assassination attempt on Trump in late 2024, Harris received a call from the then-president-elect who promised to lessen his harsh public criticisms of her saying, “I’m going to tone it down. You’re going to see.”

Though Trump publicly attacked Harris relentlessly during the campaign, his private demeanor was surprisingly more courteous and respectful. He even mentioned his daughter Ivanka being a fan of Harris and complimented her husband Doug Emhoff.

At a recent “Day of Unreasonable Conversation” summit, Harris did not hold back in condemning the Trump administration in colorful terms, which was met with enthusiastic audience approval.

Harris described the election loss as profoundly painful, comparing it to the death of her mother, making her memoir both a political and personal chronicle.
