A vacation to Morocco turned into a stressful ordeal for 22-year-old Rebecca McCurry when she left her passport behind on the Ryanair flight she’d just arrived on. Despite realizing the mistake minutes after disembarking, she was refused permission to re-enter the plane to retrieve it.

Airport and airline personnel searched but initially reported the passport missing. Rebecca was soon detained and questioned by Moroccan officers for hours. She recounted unkind treatment and persistent name-calling.
Authorities informed her she would face deportation—not on the original flight back—and held her for hours where she was offered food that didn’t meet her dietary needs. To avoid lengthy detention, Rebecca feigned legal support and was placed on a return flight quickly.

Upon arriving in the UK, her father picked her up in Manchester, while her passport was safely retrieved from the plane by an acquaintance.
