A Tesla Model 3 driver who tracked his yearly charging expenses has unveiled just how cost-effective driving electric can be compared to gas-powered vehicles. Covering over 13,000km mainly using off-peak home electricity, the owner spent just $170 USD in a year charging at home.

Adding public charging costs of $114, his total spend of $285 USD dramatically undercuts the $3,400+ cost for gasoline to run a conventional car the same distance.

That equates to a saving of nearly $2,700 NZD annually, reinforcing the financial benefits of switching to electric vehicles. This cost analysis gained attention online for its transparency and encouragement to prospective EV buyers.
