Australian Dad Dies at 28 After Battling Rare Lung Infection With 72 Holes

The story of Dylan Jay Watts is both tragic and a warning to many. Diagnosed with a destructive lung infection that created 72 permanent holes, the 28-year-old from Broulee died in March 2025, just days before turning 29.

Initially diagnosed with lung damage in 2021, Dylan faced a steady decline despite intense treatment efforts, including a hospital stay following hemorrhaging. The infection brought several debilitating symptoms like cough and exhaustion, with his family fearing for his life.

Despite his condition, Dylan remained determined until the very end, surrounded by family and comforted by his puppy. His sister Caitlyn has shared his story widely to commemorate his life and raise awareness.

A GoFundMe page collects donations for his funeral and supports for the family, who continues to grieve the loss of a beloved father and son.
