While external eaters who respond to food cues showed better fat loss, emotional eaters driven by negative feelings lost less weight.

This indicates that GLP-1 drugs, which suppress appetite through biological mechanisms, may be less capable of overcoming psychological reasons behind emotional eating.

The authors recommend that behavioral assessments be incorporated into treatment plans to optimize results.
