15-Year-Old Footballer Fractures Spine After Opponent’s Reckless Play in Michigan

Colton Mims, a junior varsity player from Kalamazoo Central High School, suffered two fractures in his spine following a reckless maneuver by a larger opposing player during a game against Lakeshore High School.

The troubling footage circulated online shows the player tackling Colton and then leaping back onto him while he remained on the ground. Colton’s mother detailed the moment she realized her son had been severely injured, stating her shock and heartbreak.

Colton’s recovery will require time, and while he is out for the season, it is uncertain whether he will play football again. Schools involved condemned the player’s behavior, and disciplinary actions were taken.
