Kat Von D has unveiled her near-complete blackout tattoo, which covers about 80% of her body and signifies more than just an aesthetic choice—it represents a personal and emotional transformation.
Since starting in 2020, Von D underwent 17 sessions of covering her tattoos with solid black ink, working closely with a specialist known as Hoode. Videos on her social media show her striking new look, including a recent outing to a museum where her bold sleeve coverage was clear.

The coverage of her prior tattoos, some of which carried painful memories linked to past substance abuse, gave Von D a renewed sense of identity and liberation.
This reinvention follows a landmark legal victory when Von D was cleared of copyright infringement claims in 2024 after a jury sided with her over allegations that one of her tattoo designs was copied from a photograph.
The tattoo artist continues to reflect on the emotional journey that drove her to undergo this radical body art transformation.
