Project REBIRTH: The AI Airbag System Aiming to Save Plane Crash Victims

Inspired by the Air India tragedy that took hundreds of lives, engineers have introduced Project REBIRTH, an AI-powered crash survival system for airplanes. Using a combination of smart technology and traditional safety principles, this concept aims to reduce fatalities in plane crashes dramatically.

Their theory is based around AI detecting failure (James Dyson Award)

The AI monitors numerous flight parameters and can preemptively activate external airbags that envelop the plane’s most vulnerable areas just before impact. This ‘cocoon’ absorbs much of the crash force, potentially turning deadly accidents into survivable events.

The engineers have a wacky concept (Project Rebirth)

To further slow the plane, the system employs reverse thrust and gas thrusters at critical moments. Passengers benefit inside as special non-Newtonian fluids in the cabin adjust fortheir protective qualities. Post-crash, the plane transforms visually to help rescue teams locate it quickly.

As a finalist for the James Dyson Award, Project REBIRTH holds promise for redefining aviation safety and offering peace of mind to travelers worldwide.
