Stranded Climber Natalia Nagovitsyna’s Rescue Suspended Amid Harsh Conditions

Natalia Nagovitsyna has been stranded on Kyrgyzstan’s Victory Peak since fracturing her leg on August 12. Early assistance came from fellow climbers, but severe weather has forced rescue teams to suspend operations.

The 24,400-foot peak is the tallest in the Tian Shan range, posing serious difficulties to rescuers. Italian mountaineer Luca Sinigaglia died during a supply run to Natalia.

Surveillance spotted Natalia near the summit on August 19, but worsening snow and cold halted searches by August 23.

Terrain and altitude make manual rescue unfeasible, and specialized helicopters are unavailable.

Natalia is no stranger to hardship, having lost her husband during a previous mountain expedition.

Her situation remains critical as rescue teams wait for better conditions.
