When 22-year-old Erin Langworthy joked with her mother about her upcoming bungee jump at Victoria Falls in 2012, she had no idea how serious things would become. She wrote, “I’m doing a bungee jump tomorrow, so I’ll say goodbye… only joking!” but moments later faced a near-death experience.
Erin was the 105th person to jump from the Zambezi River bridge, captured on video with arms extended. Suddenly, her bungee cord broke, and she plunged into the water with the cord tied to her feet.
Knocked out by the impact, she came to underwater, confused and struggling to breathe, as the icy water snapped her out of it. The cord snagged on rocks as the swift current pulled her along, but she managed to free herself multiple times and swim to safety.
Erin Langworthy survived horror injuries after her bungee cord snapped from 360ft in Zambia.
She had joked about her death the day before it happened.

Erin was hospitalized for lung injuries and infections but survived without broken bones. She described her survival as a miracle and appreciated the bungee staff’s care.
Zambia’s tourism minister reassured visitors about safety, mentioning that only one accident had occurred among tens of thousands of jumps. He even offered to bungee jump with Erin as proof.
While her mother refuses to jump again, Erin remains undecided about future jumps.
