What You Should Know About Permanent Effects of Facial Fillers

Dermal fillers are commonly used to reduce wrinkles and restore youthful volume, but new insights from oculoplastic surgeon Dr. Kami Parsa reveal that these treatments can have lasting consequences. Though often described as temporary, HA fillers can stay in tissues for many years, swelling as they attract water.

Dr. Parsa’s 2024 TikTok video showed how years of filler treatments led to clumps under the skin that were double the injected amount in size. Such accumulation can cause the face to look excessively puffy and stretched, known as “pillow face,” contradicting the intended rejuvenation.

These effects usually appear after repeated injections without enough time for previous filler to dissolve or from overcorrecting certain features. The filler weight stretches the skin, distorting facial balance.

Many are surprised to learn fillers don’t always fully disappear and can create lumps or chronic swelling. Medical experts stress that fillers should be used sparingly and by skilled practitioners to minimize risks.

Dr. Parsa’s message is clear—while fillers can help enhance appearance, excessive or careless use can cause permanent damage and unnatural facial changes.
