Big Game Hunter Asher Watkins Dies After Buffalo Attack in South Africa

Asher Watkins, a wealthy Texan involved in ranch real estate, was fatally gored by a Cape buffalo during a hunting trip in South Africa’s Limpopo region. The 52-year-old was tracking the large animal alongside professional hunters when the buffalo charged him unexpectedly, causing fatal injuries.

The hunt was organized by Coenraad Vermaak Safaris, which expressed profound sadness and confirmed that the attack was sudden and unprovoked. Watkins’ mother, stepfather, and brother were nearby and have been supported by the safari team in the aftermath.

Known for his love of the outdoors and involvement in the Dallas Safari Club, Watkins leaves behind family, including his ex-wife and daughter. The Cape buffalo is infamous for its aggressive behavior and is considered one of the most dangerous animals for hunters in Africa.
