Passenger Injured as Acrylic Panel Shatters on Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas Waterslide

During a cruise between Miami and Perfect Day at CocoCay, a passenger on Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas was hurt when an acrylic glass section of the “Frightening Bolt” waterslide broke, revealing a gaping hole. The man sustained cuts on his back and legs but did not fall from the slide.

Videos from passengers reveal water spurting out from the damaged section and panicked shouts urging staff to halt the attraction. Medical personnel provided immediate care, and the cruise line confirmed the guest is stable.

The water slide has been shut down pending a thorough investigation regarding the cause, whether it be a manufacturing defect, installation error, or accidental damage. Other waterpark areas remain operational, though increased safety protocols have been observed.
