A Quick Test to See If You Have a Tendon That’s Fading Out in People

Our bodies carry clues about the long story of human evolution. An interesting example is a tendon attached to a muscle called the palmaris longus. This muscle helped animals that swung from trees, but as humans spend less time climbing, this tendon is disappearing.

About 10-15% of people today don’t have this tendon anymore. This slow change is part of how we’re still evolving.

Testing for it is easy: lay your arm flat, palm facing up, touch your pinky to your thumb, and lift your hand slightly. If a visible tendon appears in the wrist’s center, you have it. If not, you’re among those who have lost this trait.

It’s a fun way to connect with your body’s past. Try it out and share your results!
