After ten years of getting Botox-like injections without any issues, Amanda Wolaver’s life took a terrible turn following a recent treatment. The 33-year-old from Georgia started with a severe headache. She thought rest would help, but by the next morning, she was unable to move.
Despite early dismissal from doctors, Amanda’s health continued to deteriorate for over a year. Tasks like showering or putting on makeup became painful and overwhelming. Finally, after significant testing, she was diagnosed with iatrogenic botulism, a rare neurological disorder caused by the botulinum toxin in cosmetic injections.
Her MRI also revealed small strokes had occurred due to the illness. Though no direct treatment exists, Amanda is slowly recovering. She described how the experience stopped her from being the mother she wanted to be.
Her husband has stood by her side throughout the difficult journey, and Amanda now hopes her experience will raise awareness about the hidden dangers of these beauty procedures. She emphasizes that wrinkles no longer matter compared to her health and family.
