Kristoffer Koch’s $27 Bitcoin Bet Pays Off as a Multi-Million Dollar Windfall

Kristoffer Koch was a curious student in 2009 when he bought 5,000 Bitcoins for around $27. Bitcoin was new and not well-understood, and Kristoffer soon forgot about the purchase, focusing on his future career.

Four years later, after Bitcoin gained media attention, he rediscovered his digital wallet, now holding roughly $850,000. If Kristoffer held on to all his Bitcoins, his investment today would be worth nearly $594 million.

Like many, he had forgotten his wallet password but successfully recovered it. In 2013, he sold a portion of his Bitcoins, paid taxes, and purchased a luxury apartment in Oslo.

The remainder, if preserved, is valued now around $475 million. Kristoffer marvelled at the experience, observing how we assign value to things that originally seemed worthless. His story proves how a simple choice fueled by curiosity can transform a life.
