Texas High School Track Meet Ends in Tragedy: Teen Athlete Stabbed and Killed

What began as a typical high school track meet ended in tragedy in Frisco, Texas, when 17-year-old Austin Metcalf was fatally stabbed by another student during an argument.

On April 2, during the district meet at Kuykendall Stadium, two student athletes who had never met before got into a dispute about a seat in the stands. The disagreement quickly grew heated, and the attacker pulled a knife from his backpack, stabbing Austin in the chest.

Emergency responders did everything they could, performing CPR and blood transfusions at the scene, but Austin died there. His twin brother Hunter witnessed the stabbing and attempted to stop the bleeding, holding his brother until help arrived.

According to Austin’s family, the argument started when the attacker was told he was sitting in the wrong place. Harsh words led to a senseless act of violence.

Austin was a strong student and athlete, a leader both in school and on the football field. His father, Jeff, questioned how a student could bring a weapon to a school event and take his son’s life.

The suspect, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, was arrested and charged with murder. The Frisco Police Department expressed deep sympathy for the family and community. The school district is providing support in the wake of the tragedy.

The meet was stopped immediately, with students sent home. Investigators have not revealed the exact location of the stabbing but are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.

A GoFundMe organized by Jeff Metcalf has raised considerable support to help the family. Jeff spoke openly about forgiveness and trusting God to guide them through their grief.

Austin’s death is a devastating loss for his family and community and serves as a harsh reminder of how quickly life can change.
