On July 14, Virgin Atlantic passengers at John F. Kennedy International Airport reported their luggage arriving with a mysterious brown substance, which many assumed to be human waste. The affected bags emitted an unpleasant smell, causing significant distress.

Passengers voiced their complaints on platforms like TikTok and Twitter, sharing images of the dirty luggage and criticizing airport staff’s response, who reportedly could not offer wipes or replacement bags immediately. Customers were advised to contact Virgin Atlantic’s customer service via email instead.
In response, Virgin Atlantic clarified that the bags were contaminated by grease from a broken pipe in the terminal, not fecal matter. The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience and said they are cooperating with airport authorities to resolve the situation.
@VirginAtlantic you are shit! literally! How are all these bags covered in human shit! Floor staff saying they can’t provide wipes, new bags or hand sanitizer and that we have to “write an email to customer team”.
