On July 16, a serious accident happened at an MRI center in Westbury when a man wearing a metal necklace was sucked into the powerful MRI machine. The 61-year-old, who was not authorized to be in the room, got pulled by his necklace and was critically injured.
Witnesses say the man entered after hearing a relative scream inside the scanner room, ignoring staff warnings to stay out. He experienced a medical emergency and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Medical professionals at North Shore University Hospital highlight the importance of removing all metal objects before entering an MRI. The machine’s magnetic field is thousands of times stronger than Earth’s natural magnetism and can turn small metal items into dangerous projectiles flying at high speeds.

Experts also warn that if metal objects like necklaces get caught and wrapped around the neck, it can cause serious injuries such as asphyxiation or spinal trauma. Thankfully, such accidents are rare but remind everyone to follow hospital safety rules strictly.
