Belle, a lab and hound mix from Johannesburg, carried a heartbreaking burden when she was found—her face and ears covered in huge bumps that seemed frightening. People who saw her thought she might be dangerously ill.
Animal saviors at CLAW immediately acted, taking Belle to the vet where they found out she was covered in ticks. These tiny parasites had caused the painful swellings that made her look so unwell. Removing all the ticks at once was dangerous, so Belle was brought back to CLAW for gradual care.
The team fed her nourishing meals and patiently treated the tick infestation step by step. Soon, Belle’s skin started to heal, and she was able to enjoy a bath for the first time in a long while. Her energy returned, her shiny coat came back, and her spirit brightened.
