Donald Trump recently discussed the assassination attempt he survived a year ago at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. On July 13, 2024, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, fired shots from a building, and a bullet grazed Trump’s ear.
Although Trump was not fatally wounded, retired fire chief Corey Comperatore died, and two others were seriously injured. Crooks was killed by a Secret Service sniper. As the anniversary nears, Trump shared his experience in an upcoming Fox News interview.

“It was unforgettable,” Trump told Lara Trump. “I got whacked. There’s no question about that.” He noted his quick reaction, which he believes saved him from multiple shots.
Trump criticized the Secret Service for having a “bad day,” stating they made mistakes by not securing the building or coordinating with local police. Despite this, he praised the counter-sniper who swiftly neutralized Crooks.
Six agents were suspended following the incident. Comperatore’s widow held them responsible. Myosoty Perez, an agent suspended, had been assigned to secure the area, though her lawyer clarified she wasn’t in overall charge.

Remarkably, Trump survived a second assassination attempt just two months later in West Palm Beach, Florida, where Secret Service agents again intervened.
