Communities in Texas are mourning after severe flash floods caused widespread destruction and loss of life. Among the victims is Julian Ryan, 27, who died while protecting his fiancée Christina Wilson, their two children, and his mother during the floods in Kerr County.
On July 4, after a month’s worth of rain fell in hours, the Guadalupe River rose dangerously. Floodwaters rushed into their trailer home in Ingram, prompting Ryan to break a window to help his family reach the roof. During this heroic act, he badly injured his arm, nearly cutting it off.
Christina recalled his final words: “By 6 o’clock my husband was dead, he had lost all of his blood. He looked at me and the kids, my mother-in-law and said ‘sorry I’m not going to make it, I love y’all.’” His body was found hours later as the waters receded.
Ryan’s mother called him a hero, and the family stressed the importance of better flood warnings, believing sirens could save lives.
Texas authorities have deployed extensive rescue teams, including over 100 troopers and helicopters. Governor Greg Abbott promised full support for rescue and recovery efforts. Former President Trump expressed condolences and pledged federal aid.
