An 18-year-old named Sonny Blundell tragically died after suffering a head injury while celebrating a new chapter in his life. Sonny had recently moved from New South Wales to Southport, Queensland, to start a new job in concreting and live with his girlfriend.
His sister, Izabella, described the move as “his greatest accomplishment.” On June 23, while celebrating with his best friend, Sonny attempted a backflip at his apartment but fell and hit his head on the floor.
The next day, a roommate found Sonny unresponsive. He was rushed to Queensland Hospital’s ICU, where he remained in a coma due to a brain injury. Izabella explained that Sonny had a headache after the fall but later vomited and lost consciousness.
Sonny suffered multiple strokes and brain bleeding, requiring a drain. Sadly, he passed away a week later. The family is raising funds to cover funeral expenses and bring Sonny’s body home.
Head injuries like Sonny’s can cause serious damage. The Mayo Clinic lists symptoms such as loss of consciousness, worsening headaches, vomiting, seizures, and difficulty waking. Anyone with these symptoms after a head injury should get medical attention right away.
