Facebook Messenger has introduced a new feature that alerts users when someone takes a screenshot of their disappearing messages. Mark Zuckerberg shared the update on his Facebook page, emphasizing the importance of privacy in encrypted chats.
Disappearing messages, which vanish after being seen, now come with screenshot notifications to prevent secret captures. Zuckerberg demonstrated this by showing a screenshot taken by his wife during a private chat, which triggered an alert.
This feature, already common on apps like Snapchat, is currently available to users in the United States and is expected to reach Europe soon. It aims to protect users from unauthorized sharing of sensitive conversations.
Users have reacted with mixed feelings; while some appreciate the added security, others have found workarounds like screen recording or photographing the screen with another device.
Meta is also applying similar privacy updates to Instagram, showing a broader push to safeguard user communication.
