Juliana Marins, a 26-year-old Brazilian tourist, sent touching final messages to her mother before she died after falling into a volcano crater on Lombok island, Indonesia. Her mother shared these last texts, revealing Juliana’s excitement and love for her family during the trip.
On June 21, Juliana fell from a cliff at Mount Rinjani. Rescue teams tracked her location using drones, finding her stuck on a rock ledge 500 meters below. Sadly, she was confirmed dead on June 24.
In her messages, Juliana told her mother how much she loved her and that she wasn’t afraid—only worried about disappointing her family. She spoke of being raised by a strong woman and having dreams she wanted to follow fearlessly.
Her family criticized the rescue efforts, saying delays may have cost Juliana her life. They promised to pursue justice.
The Brazilian government confirmed the recovery after challenging conditions. Juliana had asked for a break, but the group moved on, and when the guide returned, she had fallen.
A Brazilian senator called for an investigation, highlighting how Juliana was left behind twice—on the trail and after the fall. The hike is known to be very tough, adding to the tragedy.
