Simon Bowler, a 50-year-old tennis coach from the UK, discovered he had a deadly form of skin cancer after noticing a strange effect from just one glass of wine. In October 2023, Simon felt tipsy unusually fast and experienced blurry vision and a strange sensation in his head.
He also noticed a lump in his neck, which doctors first thought was a cyst. But after further testing, it was confirmed to be melanoma, a dangerous skin cancer that can spread rapidly.
Simon underwent surgery and immunotherapy in February 2024. Unfortunately, the cancer spread to his brain months later, and he began targeted radiotherapy. The treatment caused severe side effects, including nerve damage that affected his legs and hand.
Despite the hardships, Simon is taking time to consult with his oncology team about his treatment plan. A GoFundMe has been launched to support him, and Simon plans to donate part of the money to charity. He remains determined to continue mentoring young players and showing strength through adversity.
