Eric Trump Reflects on Family’s Political Future

Eric Trump, the second son of President Donald Trump, recently shared how his father’s presidency has reshaped their family, dropping hints about what’s next. Now in his second term, the 79-year-old has built a massive following, moving from running The Trump Organization, a family business since 1927, to a polarizing political figure after his 2015 campaign. The decision turned the Trump family’s life upside down.

In a Financial Times interview, Eric, 41, was asked if he’d run for president when his father’s term ends. He reflected on the toll politics takes. “Would I put my kids through what I’ve faced?” he wondered, noting that while he or other family members could campaign, the harsh political world makes him hesitant. When asked if 2024 was the last time “Trump” would appear on a ballot, he replied, “Time will tell. There are others in the family.”

Eric, who has two children with his wife Lara, stressed that the family hasn’t gained wealth from politics. “We’d be much richer if my father hadn’t run,” he said, citing huge legal and personal costs. He rejected claims of profiting from the presidency, calling the family’s challenges “astronomical.” As Donald Trump’s fame grows, Eric’s words suggest the family is at a turning point, deciding whether to stay in the political spotlight or shield their loved ones from its demands. Their choice will shape the next chapter of a family known for both business success and political drama.
