The Airport Stunt That Saved Me From a Bad Marriage

I almost married the wrong man.

Three weeks before the wedding, I found out Jared’s “last trip as a single man” wasn’t with his friends—it was with Miranda, the ex he swore he was over. “It’s just closure,” he said, as if that made it okay.

Instead of screaming, I plotted. With the help of Liam—my ex who’d always been more of a “right person, wrong time”—I staged our own romantic sendoff at the airport. The plan was simple: make Jared sweat.

But then Liam did something unexpected. He booked us real tickets. “Let’s actually go,” he said.

That trip changed everything. Without wedding stress or Jared’s lies hanging over me, I saw clearly for the first time in years. Liam was patient, kind, and—most importantly—completely transparent.

We married a year later in a sunset ceremony. Jared’s email? “Closure achieved, I guess.”

He wasn’t wrong. Just not in the way he thought.
